Program: Mexican Boxcar Communities in Kansas–CANCELLED

PROGRAM CANCELLED!!!  Due to family obligations, Dr. Antonio Delgado has cancelled his 2016 trip to the U.S.A.

When men migrated from Mexico to Kansas to work on the railroad, they and their families often lived on railroad property in boxcars and section houses. As with any community of people, these “boxcar communities” developed a vibrant social and cultural character in towns across the Midwest. The presentation was to focus on the experiences of the boxcar community residents, the governmental policies which shaped their lives, and the prejudicial environment the Mexican immigrants faced while working and raising their families.

Special thanks to the Kansas Humanities Council and the Newton Public Library for the planned collaboration with the Harvey County Historical Society.
