Donations Needed to Complete Storm Window Project
Thanks to the generous support of member and friend John Shepherd, HCHM has installed storm windows on the west and north sides of the building. The Columbia windows (made in Lindsborg) replaced the worn and damaged aluminum-frame 1960’s storms and are protecting the original wood window frames and the new paint job. The east and south sides still need storm windows, with a cost of just under $10,000. Please consider donating to this project so that protection can go over the windows as soon as possible. Any donation amount is appreciated. Credit card donations are now accepted on our website through Paypal (no Paypal account required!). As the year draws to a close, your gift might be just what is needed to get this project completed. Drive by the museum to see the new frames on the west and north sides, and please feel free to contact Debra Hiebert, director, with any questions or concerns. Thanks you for considering the museum in 2013 and 2014!
Five Places of Christmas Welcomes the Public December 7
The public is invited to The Five Places of Christmas on December 7 from 10:00 until 4:00. Participating attractions are HCHM, Warkentin House, Carriage Factory Gallery, Kauffman Museum and the Bethel College Women’s Association (hosting at the Fine Arts Center). Each attraction offers free admission and refreshments, with entertainment, crafts and gift sales at some venues.
"All Aboard for the Holidays" is the theme at HCHM, featuring a working O-gauge train running through a 1940’s town (special thanks to Javen Schmucker!), antique train toys decorating the galleries and railroad photos ornamenting the tree. A special attraction is the 1941 train set belonging to volunteer Dean Koppes (featured in photo). Dean’s mother purchased the set for him after they saw it in front of the JC Penney store on Main Street, and he has treasured it ever since. Refresh with Davidson’s Christmas Tea and Harvey House Applesauce Cake provided by The Leaf Tea Lounge.
