The Harvey County Historical Museum and
Archives is a depository for
early Harvey County records. Those doing
family history, house history and local history research will find
certain records helpful to them.
Archive staff and volunteers will do
research for those who are
unable to visit the museum for a fee
of $15.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each additional hour.
For members of the Harvey County Historical Society and the Harvey County
Genealogical Society who are unable to visit the museum the fee is $10.00 for
the first hour and $5.00 for each additional hour.

- A yearly listing of county
residents by townships and cities. Residents are listed in
alphabetical order: male and female. The address is given, number of
people in the family, and the school district in which they reside.

- The actual licenses are available
for photocopying. An index exists for each year, the groom is listed
in alphabetical order, the bride's maiden name is given with the
filing date for the license.

Micki Crozier in Four volumes. These records contain information
into the middle 1980s.

available on microfilm and, for some years, in book form. On microfilm,
city directories from 1885 to 1990 are available. Directories in
book form vary by year.

| HARVEY
COUNTY, KANSAS HISTORIES
The reprint of Judge R.W.P. Muse's
booklet, History of Harvey County: 1871-1881, is an
excellent source of information on the beginnings of Harvey County.
Judge Muse was a Santa Fe Railroad land agent who platted the City of
Newton and supervised land sales to settlers.
Brick and Mortar
by Rachel Waltner (Goossen), the 1990 County history book contains good
histories of the area. The book also contains family histories submitted
for the publication.

County tax rolls are on microfilm
for years 1872-1909. These are particularly helpful to people doing
house histories. It might help date an old house.

The Society has records from some
of the county schools. They are currently being inventoried. There
is a list of school district numbers and locations.

NEWTON VOTER REGISTRATION RECORDS
Beginning in 1881, the records are currently indexed to 1898. The
records show names, addresses and, in some cases, occupations.
HARVEY COUNTY DIVORCE RECORD INDEX
First filings only. 1872 to 1939. The index
provides case numbers to find the actual records at the Harvey County
Courthouse. SANTA FE RAILWAY COLLECTION
Papers, records, files and books of four former railroad
employees. These files are available for researching specific areas of
the railroad, particularly its operations in Newton and Harvey County.
